Implants in Hillsboro, OH

Dr. Julie Overberg provides tooth-replacement solutions with dental implants in Hillsboro, OH. Dental implants are an excellent option for replacing a single missing tooth, or several missing teeth.

Dental implants are titanium posts that are placed in the bone. A crown is placed on top of them to replace missing teeth. Replacing a lost tooth is essential to a healthy mouth and a healthy body. It will provide you with increased aesthetics of course, but will also improve your speech, ease of eating, and oral hygiene.

Dental implants restore your bite by filling in missing teeth or gaps. The difference between a bridge and an implant is a bridge involves the teeth on either side of the space. An implant fills in the space and doesn't touch the other teeth. Most of the time, Dr. Overberg recommends an implant because it doesn't involve the other teeth. An implant also doesn't decay, it doesn't get periodontal disease, and it lasts a very long time. Implants tend to outlast anything else we put in the mouth!

Surgical Placement

Dr. Overberg completes the restoration aspect of a dental implant and refers the surgical procedure to an oral

surgeon. Once the failed tooth has been removed and any bone grafting completed if needed, the implant is placed into the jawbone and left to heal for three to four months. After the implant has integrated to the bone, the crown is created and placed and the tooth is completely restored.

Restoration

The dental implant itself is only a replacement for the root of the lost tooth, so after the implant has been placed, you’ll still need to get a restoration, or replacement tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, Dr. Overberg will make an impression of your existing teeth, creating a model of your bite. The new restoration, most typically a crown, will be based on this model so it will blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. The crown is then attached to the connector point (abutment) on your implant.
